The Ajan Warrior of the River

Somewhere in the snowbound ranges of Ultan, there is a glistening aerie made of faceted ice carved from a mountain peak. One who follows the rivers far enough north, it is said, can climb the waterfalls into the sky and see for themselves the priceless chalice from which the waters flow down from the mountains to the shores of Rotensha.

It is to this place the Winterdancer traveled to learn the ways of the Quarterseeker, the Ajan Treasure with the powers of ice, snow and the thundering cascade waterfalls of Ultan. With her fighting staff, the River Warrior has perfect balance. She fights with the delicacy of a single snowflake, yet her attacks have the power of the same crashing rivers that forged a hundred miles of icy canyons from Ultan to Varcarel.

The River Warrior’s title comes from the most arcane fable of Ultan. It seems that the waters contained inside the Quarterseeker can infuse the artifact with a tremendous gift. When their power is called upon in battle, the River Warrior begins the Winter’s Dance: a constant flourish of perfectly balanced attacks, parries, strikes and dodges carried on the feathery wings of the frozen wind.

While she dances, the fable goes, the Warrior of the River is invincible.

The Warrior of the Night’s Crossbow

Although the Starlight Huntress prefers to do battle from a distance where her powerful longbow is most effective, there are times when she is forced to close range. In battles like these, she relies on her snares and her crossbow.

The Warrior of the Night’s crossbow is designed to be her off-hand weapon. It gives her a second line of fire at distance, and has a devastating punch at short ranges. The weapon itself is an over-under mechanism which can be double-loaded and fired with a rocker-trigger. Its maximum effective range is 35 yards, but it has no minimum effective range, and its pull is balanced for high power point blank shots as well as ranged combat.

It has a cedar stock with steel-reinforced silver fittings. As double-crossbows go, it is an extraordinarily light weapon, although it is roughtly three times the size of what most bowyers would consider a true hand-crossbow. It is loaded with a pedal-operated pulling mechanism which the Night Warrior carries in her shoulder pack. Although the weapon can fire full-size steel bolts, the Huntress is known to carry sharpened bolts made of pure silver which can be enchanted.
